Dr Vlachos is a highly seasoned technical expert with more than 15 years of experience in working with large corporation and educational institutes worldwide in the areas of smart grid as scientific expert, project manager, commissioning expert, and consultant. He also holds a Bachelor and a PhD on Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of institute. Dr Vlachos has been working closely with both academia and industry in more than 30 countries worldwide in projects that merge the worlds of energy and ICT. Among these projects are the privatization of the power sector in Nigeria and the Ras Al-Khair power and desalination plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which as of January 2017, is the world’s largest hybrid water desalination plant.
Dr Vlachos has authored more that 40 scientific publications in international journals and conferences with more that 800 references from third-parties. He has also been awarded with the “Ericsson Award of Excellence in Telecommunications” and recently received the “Researcher of the Year” award in the area of blockchain technology for the energy sector. His current research interests include Internet of Things, blockchains and distributed ledger technologies in the energy sector, as well as cybersecurity. Dr Vlachos is a member of the European Technology & Innovation Platform – Smart Networks for Energy Transition and an advisory board member of the Hellenic Blockchain Hub coordinating the respective Energy Working Group.
